Terms & Conditions

TUITION / REFUND POLICY: Tuition is non-refundable. If you need to cancel your enrolment, we may offer to hold your registration as credit for a class/workshop in the following term only, provided you make this request in writing TWO WEEKS prior to the start of the current term.

Please note: All classes need a minimum number of students to run. If your class does not have enough students it may be cancelled prior to commencement and you will be informed. Please ensure you connect with LMA and follow @laughmasters on social media so you don’t miss any important updates, venue changes, news, etc.

In the unforeseeable event that your class is cancelled due to low enrollment or any other reason, Laugh-Masters Academy will place you in another class/workshop (space permitting) or offer a credit towards a future workshop. If you cannot attend the alternative class/workshop a refund may be processed.

COVID: In the unfortunate event your class is affected mid-term by COVID (or any other health-related/pandemic type event) LMA reserves the right to move your class online for your safety. Our teachers are awesome at online classes and workshops and will endeavour to deliver a comparable experience to the best of their, and the school’s capability. As per above, partial and/or full refunds will not be given.

BY PARTICIPATING IN ANY LMA EVENT YOU AGREE TO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING: I understand that workshops are not always guaranteed based on the Instructor assigned to them. The Instructor currently attached to my workshop may be changed at any time for any reason. I agree that tuition is non-refundable.

WAIVER: Acceptance of Risk and Release from Liability: I recognise and accept the inherent risks and hazards involved with participation in theatre and school activities at Laugh-Masters Academy. There are risks involved with any performance or school-related activity, and I have decided to participate in these activities having so acknowledged and accepted the risks involved.

I recognize that Laugh-Masters Academy has not undertaken any duty or responsibility for my safety and understand that I assume full responsibility for all risk of bodily injury, death, disability, and property damage as a result of participating in these activities.

I certify that I am physically and emotionally fit, have sufficiently prepared or trained for participation in the activity or event, and have not been advised to not participate by a qualified medical professional. I certify that there are no physical or mental health-related issues, reasons or problems which preclude my participation in this activity or event.

RISKS: I acknowledge that this activity or event may involve a test of a person’s physical and mental limits and may carry with it the potential for death, serious injury, and property loss. The risks may include, but are not limited to, those caused by terrain, facilities, temperature, weather, condition of participants, equipment, electricity, fire, smoke, vehicular traffic, actions of other people including, but not limited to, participants, volunteers, spectators, production crew, event officials, and event monitors, and/or producers of the event, and lack of hydration. These risks are not only inherent to participants but are also present for volunteers.

MEDICAL TREATMENT: I hereby consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident, and/or illness during this activity or event and I hereby release and forever discharge Laugh-Masters Academy/Notice Pty Ltd from any claim whatsoever which arises or may hereafter arise on account of any first-aid treatment or other medical services rendered in connection with an emergency during my tenure as a student, performer, volunteer or any other associated role/activity.

RELEASE: In consideration of my [and/or my child(s)] participation in this activity, and/or my application and permission to participate in this event, I hereby take action for myself, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors, and assigns as follows:

I voluntarily release, discharge, waive and relinquish all claims or actions that I (he/she) may have against Laugh-Masters Academy/Notice Corp., its officers, agents, employees, representatives, successors and assigns, for bodily injury, emotional distress, property damage, and/or wrongful death, occurring or arising out of or in any way connected to my (his/her) participation in this activity, including, but not limited to, those claims or actions arising out of any negligence on the part of Laugh-Masters Academy, its officers, agents, employees, representatives, successors and assigns.

It is the intent of this agreement to exempt and relieve Laugh-Masters Academy, its officers, agents, teachers, performers, special guests, employees, and volunteers from any and all liability including for personal injury, emotional distress, property damage or wrongful death caused by negligence. I (he/she) hereby surrender any right to seek reimbursement from Laugh-Masters Academy/Notice Corp. and its directors, officers, employees, and other agents for injury sustained and liability incurred.

I indemnify, hold harmless, and promise not to sue the entities or persons mentioned in this paragraph from any and all liabilities or claims made as a result of participation in this activity or event or any associated events such as shows, jams, festivals, workshops etc. whether caused by the negligence of release or otherwise.

BEHAVIOUR: I understand that as a Laugh-Masters Academy student, I am expected to behave in a professional manner and be respectful of both my fellow students and Instructor. Chewing gum during scenes, taking phone calls or text messages, and any other behaviour deemed disruptive by the Instructor will not be tolerated. Furthermore, all staff, students, performers, and crew are expected to behave with proper care and consideration towards each other at all times. You have a responsibility to ensure that your actions do not place yourself or others at risk.

CRITICISM: Please do not give notes or feedback to your fellow students inside or outside of class. Unsolicited compliments are great, but unsolicited criticism is unacceptable, no matter how constructive the intention.

DRUG & ALCOHOL POLICY: We want you to have a clear head in order to perform at the top of your game. Do whatever you like after class, but please don’t show up under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Anyone who is obviously intoxicated will be asked to leave and will be marked as absent for the day. If you believe yourself or some other person to be affected by drugs or alcohol you have a responsibility to declare yourself unable to work or take part in the class, rehearsal or performance, or inform a properly authorised representative of LMA of your suspicions as the case may be.

HARASSMENT: You are required to refrain from any action or statement that may reasonably be expected to abuse, insult, demean, harass, harm or distress any other person participating in the activity with which you are involved. Any person believed to have recklessly or deliberately undertaken such actions or statements will be required to stand down until a proper investigation of the incident has been carried out by LMA. If you are aware of or believe that an incident of harmful, harassing, demeaning, insulting or abusive behaviour (whether it be verbal or physical) has taken place, either at an LMA activity or externally if the incident nonetheless impacts upon your or any other person’s ability to safely participate in LMA’s activities, then you have a responsibility to inform a properly authorised representative of LMA. Please be aware that if you believe any incident might be criminal in nature then your primary responsibility is to report it to the police.

VIOLENT OR SEXUAL BEHAVIOUR / CONTENT IN CLASS: At Laugh-Masters Academy our priority is to create a safe space for all students and teachers to enjoy. Therefore gratuitous sexual or violent behaviour and content will not be tolerated on stage in our workshops. We do support your right to express yourself freely on stage, as long as you aren’t endangering yourself, your classmates, or the trust that exists between the group. Providing they emerge in an appropriate context, adult concepts, language and sexual references may be considered to be an acceptable part of a typical class or performance. Unwarranted vulgarity, obscenity and behaviour or language that is liable to vilify on the basis of race, gender, disability or sexual orientation will not be tolerated. Statements and behaviours liable to serve as triggers to survivors of abuse are also unacceptable. If you have any doubts about how your behaviour or statements might be received then you should refrain from vocalising or acting them out, or discuss boundaries and best practices with your instructor first.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICIES: I understand that during the creative process of Laugh-Masters Academy classes I (he/she) may be exposed to activities and dialogue that could be considered sexually or otherwise offensive. I understand Instructors and Students should make every effort to limit the production of such material to the classroom or theatre. If I have a complaint about any type of harassment, I understand that I should discuss the matter with Laugh-Masters Academy management. I have read, understand and agree to adhere to LMA’s comprehensive Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Policy.

Note that LMA does not tolerate incidents of this nature and will take all necessary steps to follow up on reports of such behaviours and investigate as confidentially as possible given the circumstances of the reported incident. The perpetrators of such incidents will be held accountable for their actions or statements and the victims of such incidents will be supported by LMA.

DISMISSALS: We are 100% committed to keeping the LMA community a safe place for all and bad behaviour will not be tolerated. Any student who is found at the teacher’s and/or any other school staff’s discretion to be in breach of LMA’s Drug and Alcohol policy, Harassment policy, Violent/sexual behaviour/content policy and/or Sexual harassment policy may be asked to permanently leave class and no refunds will be given.
