Andrew Wowk

Andrew was introduced to improv through binge-watching Whose Line Is It Anyway? in the 90’s. Years later he finally jumped in the deep end and tried it for himself. He got his start by attending a few TheatreSports jams at the University of Sydney, where he quickly realised he wanted to throw himself completely into the world of Improv. Since then he has trained, performed, and been instructed in both long- and short-form, studying under and playing alongside improv gurus such as Ryan Karels, Rachael Mason, Joe Bill, Michael Gregory, Linda Calgaro, Ewan Campbell, Sophie Long, Cale Bain, and Bridie Connell.

Over the years, Andrew has gone on to become a firm fixture in the Improv scene in Sydney as both a performer and instructor. He has regularly performed in (and helped produce) numerous shows, including Impro Australia’s First Thursday Impro Club/First Monday Impro Club and Cranston Cup, as well as independent shows such as Likewise, Inappropriate Response, No But Comedy, and Improv Circus. As a member of the LMA Night Shift troupe, Death Penguin, and LMA house team Lolwhut? he has played in numerous shows at The Belvoir and Factory theatres.

As an instructor, he has been working with LMA since 2015, starting as a teaching assistant before taking on a full teaching role as the Level 4 (Harold) instructor. He has also run various one-off jams and workshops for beginners. From 2013 to 2016 he was part of the team who ran the semi-regular Lybrary Impro jams at Nauti Studios, which were designed to bring together improvisers of all levels to share knowledge with one another, try out new ideas, and connect in a playful, low-pressure environment.
